LaserTech Program at Pasadena City College

Laser technology enables many devices used in a wide range fields such as aerospace, medicine, remote sensing and environmental monitoring, energy, manufacturing, defense and homeland security, telecommunications, robotics, and entertainment. The LaserTech program prepares students for entry-level employment as a Technician in an advanced manufacturing environment that uses optical or laser-based technology. Courses cover how optical components and systems are manufactured, assembled, aligned, and tested. In less than two years, students can complete the LaserTech Certificate of Achievement via the core LaserTech courses, or add a few more general electives to earn an Associate Degree in Laser Technology.

The Power of Laser Technologies

The future of all technology involves the harnessing of light to enable the devices we rely on every day. The field of optics, and laser technologies in particular, is growing and technicians are in high demand. Hear from students who graduated with an associate degree in this field about how they started down their career path knowing they were “job-ready” on Day One.

Real People, Real Stories

“The education I got is very relevant to what I do at work every day because it’s very hands-on. I use the same techniques in my workplace that I used in the classroom.”

— Janelle, Optical Quality Control Technician

“The cool thing about this field is that it's an enabling technology ... pretty much every technical device these days works with light in some way.”

— Cole, Laser Technology Student

“What this program offered me is direct hands-on work. For a community college to do that for a much lower price is amazing.”

— Adrian, Laser Technology Student

“The Laser Tech program helped bridge the gap between my engineering work and optical design, giving me a deeper understanding of the theory behind the systems I work with every day.”

— Hovik, Mechanical Engineer

“I wish I would have gone into Optics sooner. I would have gone into it right away. ”

— Alex, Optics student
